About Brontë Woods

Brontë Woods handcrafted gifts begin with one of the most extraordinary provenance stories in English literary history.

In 2019 we travelled to Haworth — the village forever associated with Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë — and met with Reverend Peter Mayo-Smith. Through him we were privileged to acquire reclaimed timber from two of the most significant locations in the entire Brontë story. The first was the Church of St Michael and All Angels, where Charlotte and Emily Brontë are buried and where the Brontë family worshipped for decades. The second was the Old School Room, Haworth, where the Brontë sisters themselves taught local children.

Every Brontë Woods product is handcrafted by hand in York from this authenticated reclaimed wood. Each piece is unique — no two items are identical, and the grain, colour and character of the wood varies naturally from piece to piece. That variation is part of what makes each item special.

Each item that uses the Brontë wood is accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity from the Reverend of Haworth Church at the time of reclamation, confirming the provenance of the wood.

These are not simply wooden gifts. They are pieces of literary history — objects that connect the person holding them to two of the most significant places in the Brontë story. Whether as a personal treasure or a gift for a Brontë lover, each piece carries a story that no other gift can match.

Brontë Woods is part of the York and Beyond family of sites, including Minster Woods, wood reclaimed from York Minster and Dracula Woods, wood reclaimed from St Mary’s Church, Whitby

Haworth itself is a remarkable place — a moorland village that draws Brontë lovers from around the world. We are proud to have a genuine connection to its history and to share that connection through every piece we make.
